Contemporary Art Society was commissioned by the Greater London Authority to complete an evaluation of the cultural programs and public art that were part of High Street 2012, an ambitious programme launched in 2009 to connect the City at Aldgate to the Olympic Park at Stratford. This was a significant opportunity for the Contemporary Art Society’s advisors to make a contribution to cultural policy in London. High Street 2012 combined a series of area-based initiatives that responded to specific places along the route with street actions across the whole stretch in order to unite the intersecting high streets. CAS Consultancy conducted extensive research into the cultural programme held on High Street 2012, interviewing stakeholders and participants to evaluate the impact and success of programmes against what was originally anticipated. Through our extensive experience commissioning contemporary art within the public realm as part of urban regeneration, CAS Consultancy made key recommendations for future public art commissioning as a part of the area’s future.
