The Contemporary Art Society recently worked with the insurance company Aspen and the charity Place2Be to introduce children from Curwen Primary School in Plaistow to Aspen’s London art collection. Their global collection is managed and curated by the Contemporary Art Society and features artists such as Fiona Rae, John Baldessari, Peter Doig and Nan Goldin.
Students from the school visited Aspen’s headquarters in the City of London where they were shown round the collection by Helen Nisbet from the Contemporary Art Society. They then undertook a workshop with artists Zoe Walker and Neil Bromwich, whose work features in Aspen’s collection, and took part in an art quiz before choosing a favourite work from the London collection. Each child was then given a reproduction of their favourite work in order to make their own piece in response, back at school.
The culmination of this was an exhibition of the children’s work at Discover in Stratford where the children, their families, teachers and representatives from Place2Be, Aspen and the Contemporary Art Society celebrated the hard work, creativity and inspiration of the amazing kids and their teachers.
